Keeping distance from adjacent cars

Like this system discribes, every car needs to have special equipment to send stuff to other cars. In my opinion this is not realistic. However, nowadays every one has a Bluetooth capable mobile phone in his car. According to several PDF files found on Google it is possible to do Bluetooth Triangulation based on signal strength. Wouldn't this be a great solution to monitor the relative speed and distance of nearby cars? A possible extension to this method is the use of multiple antenna to find the direction of the signal(like the human ear).

Google search result on Bluetooth triangulation (first 3 PDF documents)
